Mahdreen's Jewels & a Belly Dancer

I have my next idea for a soft sculptured doll....Im going to make a belly dancer! I love belly dancing (Im a novice! but I love it) and I love the costuming that they wear, its so amazing and there are so many styles to work with. I love Fairies too which is why I love to make my elves, they will always be a part of my doll making. But Im really taken with the belly dance outfits that Ive come across lately.
(this has nothing to do with dolls but its prettttty! NC-OBX)
I was thinking about beginning some full scale (adult) outfits for the general public...but I am always drawn back to dolls. So what better way to enjoy both avenues? Belly Dancing dolls...Im ecstatic to say the least.
(and my baby kitty girl Sophia...she's so cute )
Im going to start with some drawings of the dolls themselves and then I'll move on to the costuming!

I'll post some pics of my drawings in a few!

Clothes for Mahdreen the Elf of Wisdom

Hello to all :) been away for awhile......had the flu & that hung for several weeks! So I've been officially accepted here in AZ, lol.

Going to post the new clothes that I've made for Mahdreen my female Elf of Wisdom....she's been waiting patiently. I'll be back soon to show you some embellishments that I will have added to her wearables & also hope to have her hair "do" in place, I've taken out her braids for embellishment.

Her outfit is all free hand/formed, the jumpsuit is a pant pattern cutout (from memory) & I've just made the upper section that would have been belted at the waist go a bit longer and brought it past her bossoms :) which i've free formed also (some extra doll body material & poly fill-handstitched to body). I've taken some upholstery material & also some curtain material and made her jacket-no pattern.

I will embellish as I go and see what happens! I can see her with lots of jewels & some great boots?

Be back soon!

Michelle

P.S. if you have any questions please feel free to send me a note...also patterns are always available even though I've free formed them :) but a little imagination can take you a long way when putting together clothing...there's no end to it!

HOPPY EASTER

A very Happy Easter to all and to those that are of various faiths, I wish you  a beautiful Palm Sunday or a Bright and Beautiful Sunny Day!

Its been awhile since I was last here...St Pats to be exact.

All is well, Ive just been dealing with a few other issues and havent been in the writing mode. Poor Mahdreen hangs in the balance and still hasnt a stitch of clothing :/ I will make a promise to dress her within this week, I will, I will, I will, make her clothing this week. Ok thats done.
                                             (My Sophia...such a silly & cute Kitty)
As for Easter, its a slow easy day here in my household. The weather is great, 75-80, and I have made breakfast for my youngest and her beau. They have already left for other ventures at different houses and I have steak marinating for my dinner! I just put them in a worcestershire/olive oil/garlic/salt & pepper mix, in a baggie and then into the fridge.  Im looking forward to my dinner, mmm. I also have a romaine salad to make and some Hawaiian rolls, I love Hawaiian rolls...m...m...m.
(went to an AZ Diamondbacks spring training game)
I've also just signed up for a vocal group here in PHX, I've not done this in some time...we shall see what becomes of it. I need to find a song that Im comfortable with, I will be auditioning for them, soon.

I think it would be great to have a group to sing with again, I used to love singing with the group I was with yrs ago. It was a lot of practice but it was fun and sounded so great when you were done practicing.

I am getting hungry, I may make that steak sooner!

Talk to you soon,

Michelle

Mahdreen Goes to The Salon

Ive just finished Mahdreen's hair and I love it! I didnt end up felting her hair, I did some hand sewing. I knotted the yarn that I chose and tacked it in place. The type of yarn that I used is the same as what was used for Zandar's hair. I thought at first that I wanted to give her red hair and then once I tried that on a few times decided on black. It just seemed to go better with her coloring. I brought in the amber/red with some fun yarn twisted around her beautiful black locks.

Im looking forward to her clothing and cant wait to get started. I would love to make her a dress but I really dont want to lose her body/legs in the outfit so I will probably have a go between. I have a beautiful semi suede in burgundy that comes to mind when I think of her boots and a few small pieces of silk too!
Well I'll be back a bit later to post some more changes and progress!

I love making dolls :D

To Market To Market

Well I'm off to our local Arizona Community Farmers Market this Sunday! My daughter has a spot in the "Art Walk" section and will be showing her wares this coming weekend. Her company is called "Rusticana Roots" and she creates fabric art. All things fabric :) Here are a few items that I've taken pictures of that will be in the show. Some are finished and some are still in the making but all will be done by the time Sunday rolls around!

I'll be back later with an update on Mahdreen :) she's been in the cupboard way too long!
