A Few Thoughts For a Saturday Morning...

Up early on a Saturday morning enjoying the sun that is finally shining, haha, or was. They did say partly cloudy, ugh :). Im feeling so much better day by day, its amazing to think that only 2 1/2 wks ago I had major back surgery. Im thinking that I may go for a walk at the very least (always helps) and possibly some lunch out with my lovely Andrea (daughter, eldest). Need to call/text her to see what she's up to. The age of communication, geez, lol

Well as for dolls and my latest project, I am progressing very well. I am at the stuffing stage and already have the head ready to be sculpted. This doll should be really interesting, it has some anatomically correct shaping, no dangly parts as the artist states but definitely shaped. I have some more pictures for you to see and then I think I will go on my walk.

I want to get a newspaper from the vending machine in our complex, first come first serve. Better get hustling!
See you soon, Michelle

NEW DOLL...back in the saddle

Hello to all, Im in the midst of my new doll and enjoying every moment :)Im feeling great and now that I have the fern and palm outside im progressing just fine, yay. I have a few pictures of the bits and pieces for you to see. Its not my pattern, its from the magazine Soft Dolls & Animals. Its an elf pattern that is very interesting and challenging, And, I would love to see what variation I can come up with. I will show you what my version looks like step by step and then also post at the end what the original looks like. Its already challenging me at this point and im only beginning!

Im still looking for a vendor to purchase future suede from but I did find some "alova suede" at JoAnn Fabrics yesterday. It was $8+ which is much more than needs to be spent on this type of fabric but thats JoAnn's for you! I bought a 1/2 yd to see what it's like to work with and I will also purchase a yd or 2 from Hancock Fabrics $6+, more like it!. I understand that Hancock has taken over for a very well known and respected supplier of doll fabric that is no longer in business. I will give it a try :)

We also had a few days of crazy storms, meant to post a picture of the first day of storms and didnt. Last night we had a few funnel cloud sightings and some Tornado warnings...a bit frightening to say the least. The funnel cloud was very close by, 1/2 mile or so and even closer to my daughter! I called her several times to see if everything was ok! She was fine and now she calls me her own personal weather girl! lol, but not so funny last night.
So I will get back to my doll and post some more tomorrow! Hopefully no more storms tonight, they called for a few but I think we've had enough.
See you tomorrow, Michelle, the storm chaser :o

My New Project

Good Morning! I am up early this morning and enjoying the quiet of the day, even Ms Sophia is napping as I write.

Well as I said earlier, we moved the two large plants that have kept me from doing any timely work in the spare room (better known as the "art room"). They are now out on the patio and I can call this room my own once again...sigh :)I did a bit of organizing and also some cat proofing so that I can work in peace, ahh, I love that word....peace. I began work on a doll yesterday and am quite pleased so far. I feel great so that makes a big difference in what and how much gets done.

I have one more doctors visit today and hope to get my release to drive...its amazing how much you come to depend on a vehicle and your own independence. I know I have.

I took some pictures yesterday of the crazy weather we were having here in Ohio and it definitely was "crazy". We had sitings of funnel clouds, possibe tornados and lots of hail in many areas. I was on the south/west end of what came through here and didnt get much except rain and some lightening &

thunder. But many other areas received a lot more. I tuned into channel 3 as I was surfing and got caught up in the minute to minute report. Of course my eldest daughter was out having dinner with a friend and in an area that was on the watch list so I was quite nervous. All was well as of 10pm and then I was off to bed.

So as for dolls I have the beginnings of a new project and have been doing some research on some new methods(I love new ideas). I have put them into my new project and am having a ball. I am still looking for a new vendor for doe suede/micro suede. I have some still left from a doll that I made many years ago and will have enough for several projects so Im good for the moment. I found Hancock Fabrics which has great prices. If anyone has a vendor that they would love to share please post a comment with the address/name, and thank you so much. I will post some pictures for the moment because I have to get ready for my Dr visit.

Be back in a few, Michelle

Micro Suede

Hello to all....just taking a break from my project! I have a new doll almost cut out and will be sewing some of it today !

I am feeling much better, I am feeling amazing, really amazing :D I have the greatest surgeon in the Universe. My back surgery has only been 1 week and 5 days ago, wow. Its hard to believe that I waited so long, well had to wait so long for this to come along. It happened, the accident, at work, on Dec 9, 09, and I was not approved for surgery until late April of 2011. What a roller coaster ride, and not one I would wish on anyone.

Anyway, Its over and I feel amazing! Im still a bit sore and have to take it easier than I want to for the time being. But I see My Surgeon on Tues the 24th and will be able to do much more once Im given the ok! I feel like a new woman just thinking about it, Yay!

We are having some great warm weather today, it has to be at least 75-79 out :) blue skies and a few white puffy clouds.

Im working on a new project, I feel very inspired and energetic once again. I love this feeling! I used to feel this way all the time, once upon a time.
And then came the accident and then came the pain and then came the termination of my job. But that's all behind me now and nothings stopping me ever again.

Ok, breaks over and Im back to my project for a few. I hope to have some pictures to show you soon. The progress should accelerate for two reasons, well actually three, haha! 1- the palm is going outside, 2- the fern is going outside and 3- I feel great and can sit longer- yay sewing again!

See you in a few, Michelle -the happiest dollweaver in the world, woohoo!

Haha, im so happy that i forgot to elaborate on my title....I am trying to find a source for micro suede/deer suede/doe suede, goes by a few names. if anyone has a source that they love and would like to share I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Michelle

Where's the Sun?

Im beginning to wonder...Where's the Sun? We have had rain, rain, rain, storm, thunder, lightning, more rain, lots of green growing, flowers, birds, more rain. The birds are having a field day out in the protected woods that are my view from my backyard. I have no less than at least 20 species of birds for my viewing pleasure. The type that I see the most are Mallord ducks, Canadian geese and Red Winged blackbirds. I've had visits from cardinals, bluejays, finches, starlings, robins and one other that I dont know the name of on my patio. The bird that I viewed a few days ago was light brown with a light blueish back going to its tail and a bright orange beek. It was no larger than a cardinal but I've never seen it before then. I've viewed a few herons in the past 4 yrs, of course thats what our area was named after...The Heron!

So I've been recouping from my back sugery for the last week and expect that I have at least a few more to go. Every day keeps getting better and I will get to the dolls as soon as possible. I had thought that I would be able to at least work on some of the details but that isnt happening for me. Soon enough:)Until then I am content to work on getting stronger!

I will go for a walk today, possibly on the treadmill at the gym in our complex. I was going to go outside and walk through the complex walkways but its cold out and raining too. So I will see everyone in a few after my walk.

Thanks for dropping by, Dulce :)the mending doll weaver
It would be wonderful to be visiting this place!

Yay! the first day back!

Hello to everyone....I have been back from surgery/hospital since wed. evening and on the mend. I've been doing quite well and noticing new abilities each day...yay!

I was told that I could not pick up more than 10 lbs, needed to walk as much as possible and lots of breathing exercises! Im doing all of the previous religiously :)

I've been so absorbed though in mending that I have not had the inclination to post anything or to make anything just yet. But its in the near future, I can feel it.

I've been out with my Lovely daughter Andrea this morning (first time out) and we went to breakfast. Great food and beautiful company. We also went to a few shops for some bits and pieces that we both needed. We both purchased a few candles, one vanilla and the other mango. So far the Vanilla smells greeeeeaaat!I will light the other maybe tomorrow :D

Well its off to bed with me and I will be back tomorrow. Have to get some rest after all that walking, felt so good though. The picture is from the walk I took along the CF river before the surgery.
Enjoy,

Talk to you soon, Dulce

Great Spring Pix :D

Went for a walk today along the Cuyahoga River and took some great pictures. We are off to a slow start with Spring but have had lots of rain so things should pick up quickly. In fact it started to rain shortly after I was on my walk so not as many pictures as I would have liked. It definitely was a lovely day for the most part and I enjoyed being out and about. Im figuring I should do what I can while I can cause recoup time is just around the corner!

I would like to get to the art room for a while today and tomorrow so that I have my project  in place when I get home from surgery. Dont know what to expect but it has to beat what Im dealing with now. Im looking forward to it as I mentioned before.

So I'll post some spring Pix and see you soon.

Just a few more days!

Hello and thank you to everyone who has been visiting, I greatly appreciate your looking in on me and this amazing site :), Im lov'n it!

I have had a few crazy weeks, wow! First the flu bug or whatever that was and then so close to the back surgery that I will have on Monday. I have been waiting for this for a 1yr &1/2....and can hardly believe that I will be on the way to a new me, yippeeeee!

Im thinking that I would love to be working on a doll while Im recouping, hmmm. If I get the head done I could sculpt while Im on the mend. And of course painting would be something that I could work on also, soooo. I have 3 days that I could prep some ideas for my time out (so to speak :). I am so looking forward to this I cant even begin to tell you how much. Its like a vacation, really.

Anyway, gotta go get a few things done and I will be back! Im feeling great by the way and my adorable daughters bought me a Kindle for my birthday (coming up on the 13th)/Mothers Day gift. Yay, it's

so awesome, Ive read two books so far and have only had it for 1 & 1/2 days. I love, love, love it.
Talk to you soon, Dulce :D

Feeling great!

Im feeling great now and cant wait to get back to the task at hand! I've scrapped the doll head that I started and will begin a new one :) didnt realize that there were other doll artists that are in favor of this one practice in particular until I read an excerpt from another doll makers blog. She said that she had been through 3 doll heads just for the one doll...phew! I dont feel so bad now.

I was not really happy with the way the head had turned out once I started to paint her face and decided that I would try to sculpt a bit more. Alas you cannot sculpt once you have gesso on the material...I tried. So I will start another face and go from there. Looking forward to moving on but it will be on the slow side as far as the dolls are concerned due to the bit of surgery that I will have upcoming. I should be on the mend and back to the "dashboard" late next week but will post until this next Monday.

I should take some new pictures, maybe make some rounds on the town for interesting pics? We shall see, glad to be back :)
